High Holiday Assistant -Reader Service
HIGH HOLIDAYS ASSISTANT – READER SERVICE
Responsible for assigning reading parts and aliyahs for both Rosh Hoshanah and Yom Kippur as well as setting up, serving, and cleaning up refreshments at Rosh Hoshanah services for readers.
Specific responsibilities
• Provide your email address to the Donations Coordinator and to BJEP office (for receiving readers contact info)
• Assign and distribute portions to each reader for both Rosh Hoshanah and Yom Kippur
• Email instructions and portions in advance to each reader (pdf files of the service booklets will be sent to you, as well as a master copies of each service booklet with sections marked.)
• Provide readers assignment list and corresponding service booklet to the leader on the day of the service
• Bring extra copy of assignment list to register students who have a part, or to answer any questions
• Assign aliyahs for both Rosh Hoshanah and Yom Kippur: opening Ark, carrying Torah to table, dressing Torah/returning to Ark, appropriate Aliyahs for reading
• Return master service booklets to High Holiday Coordinator after Yom Kippur for use next year
• Serve challah on Rosh Hoshanah
• Help Usher with clean up after Rosh Hoshanah and Yom Kippur
