Sukkot Coordinator

It will require e-mail, phone calls, and sending out hard copy confirmations of what the committee volunteers, are expected to bring.

1.   4 Weeks before Sukkot The Directors Assistant will contact Brandeis and request that the Sukkah be built on the grass outside of Golding.  She will also ensure that the etrogs and lulovs are purchased.

(Work Order Information for Directors Assistant Only) Call in for a work order for the following information below at 781-726-8500. We spoke with Sharon (Sept. 2004-05). FOLLOW UP with Brandeis maintenance contact: Brenden Breen 781-736-4824, (Sept. 2004-05)  to CONFIRM he RECEIVED the work order.  (If these numbers change then contact the director to get the new numbers.)  Also plan to pre-arrange a date about when to dismantle the Sukkah at the end of the holiday on the work order as well.  The following items should also be ordered:

3 long tables, and several trash barrells and a 6′ ladder if they have one.

3 Weeks before the event, (this might mean EVEN BEFORE the SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS) the coordinator of the Sukkah building event will contact all participating parent volunteers. We did the intitial contact by e-mail and then by phone calls if we didn’t get any response. We also mailed out hard copy confirmations one week in advance of the event date to each individual with highlighted information of what exactly they were expected to bring.

We asked all committee volunteers to each bring the following, at 8:45am:

  •  A large garbage bag full, or more if possible, of greens to cover the Sukkah. This could be leafy shrubs, leafy tree branches, corn stalks, pine tree branches and/or dried flowers. We suggested pruning their bushes/trees at home, asking a local farmer or landscaper for a donation or buying them.
  •  We asked each of the above volunteers to buy 40 – 48 kosher cookies at (Cosco, grocery store, or a kosher bakery).
  • 3 pieces of STEMMED fruit (apples, pears etc…) and 2 small gourds. Key is to buy whatever has a good sturdy stem because each person was also asked to tie string, fishing line, ribbon (whatever they have at home) to the fruit/gourds so they are ready to hang up in the Sukkah that morning. Having the volunteers do this at home saves a lot of time that morning.

In addition to the above items we asked that each volunteer be responsible for one of the following:

  • 2 people bring small step ladders
  • 3 people to bring large pruning shears (should you run low on greens and need them-We did not run low)
  • 2 people to bring string (a kite size roll) Probably won’t need that much string but a good idea to have two people bring string in case one person forgets.
  • 2 people for clean up after the event.

We sent separate, but simultaneous, e-mails, phone calls, and a hard copy confirmation to the paper goods. They had a very similar letter but were ONLY expected them to bring the paper goods and/or the drinks not everything else mentioned above. We did ask that they deliver a half hour early (8:30-8:45am).  the paper goods volunteer brings:

  • 3 white paper/plastic table clothes
  • 200 napkins (2 p/kid) plus a few extra to allow for spills

Please note: Parents will only be reimbursed for expenditures over $50.00, with the first $50.00 deducted.
